You want to take good care of your parents

You know how much staying on top of it matters. But the details are everywhere.

  • Can't find the discharge papers from the last hospital visit
  • Forgot which dose the doctor changed, and why
  • Not sure when the blood pressure pills run out
  • What did the doctor say last time?

Mom and Dad's Binder keeps it all in one place

Every medicine, appointment, reading and paper, entered once. The pages you hand to other people build themselves from it.

One page for the ER or a new doctor: allergies first, then medicines, conditions, who to call and recent health events.

Before and after Mom and Dad's Binder

Before

It's all in your head.

  • Medicine changes on loose discharge papers and sticky notes.
  • Guessing when the last fall was when the doctor asks.
  • Re-explaining everything to each new specialist.
  • Nobody can cover for you because only you know their routine.

After

It's all in one place.

  • Every medicine change dated, with who ordered it and why.
  • A one-page summary you can hand to the ER in seconds.
  • A pill chart and an "if I'm not there" page so someone else can step in.
  • Refills flagged before they run out.

Walk into every appointment ready

The summary puts allergies first, then current medicines, conditions, the latest blood pressure and weight, refills due, and falls or hospital visits in the last three months. It fits on one printed page. Keep one on the fridge, one in each of their bags and one in yours.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Open it

Download the binder and open it in Google Sheets or Excel. Share it with family if you like.

  2. Step 2

    Fill it in once

About an hour: their details, doctors and pharmacy, then the medicines, copied from the bottles.

  3. Step 3

Add a line when something changes

A new dose, a fall, a doctor's visit. Print the new summary and pill chart when you need them.

Common questions

Do I need Excel?

No. It opens in Google Sheets, which is free with a Google account. It also works in Excel 2019 or newer and Excel for Microsoft 365.

Can my brothers and sisters see it?

Yes. Put it in Google Sheets and share it, and everyone sees the same up-to-date binder. Whoever covers for you can print the pill-box chart and the summary.

What if I'm looking after both parents?

Every download has a Mom's version and a Dad's version, so each parent gets their own binder. Make as many copies as you need for anyone you care for.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Put the file in Google Drive and open it in the free Google Sheets app, or open it in the Excel app. It has a Phone View page that reads well on a small screen. The first setup, typing in the medicines and doctors, is easiest on a computer or tablet. After that, small updates are fine on the phone.

What's the difference between the editions?

The US edition uses Medicare, healthcare proxy and Social Security. The Canadian edition uses the provincial health card, substitute decision-maker, SIN and CPP, and Canadian spelling.

Is this medical advice?

No. It's a way to keep the family's records in order. Always confirm medicines and doses with the pharmacist or doctor.
